FRENCH MANICURE: What is Primer?

French manicure: Today I’m going to answer a very interesting question that I was asked by Mikela, one of the participants at my online French manicure course:

"when we talk about french manicure, what is the difference between the normal and non-acid primer?
"

As mentioned in a previous article: "Primer or Grip Ombudsman?" The primer is a product used to increase the adhesion of the gel to nails.

Prime Primer difference between acid and non acid

Let's see in detail what are different types of products:

  • Non-acid primer: Despite the name "non-acid" contain acids, but not the methacrylate, which is the most toxic of the entire category. The non-acid primes do not corrode the skin when touched, but it is not recommended to have prolonged contact with them.
  • Acids Primer: the oldest primers, in fact at the origins of French manicure they were vital to assure adhesion to skin. Acid primers are used exclusively in acrylic nails, and do not need to be exposed to the UV rays.
They contain between 30% and 100% of methacrylic acid which is highly corrosive on the human body.

For the use of these primers is extremely important a proper formation.

  • Acid-free Primer: This product has a more pleasant smell and does not contain any acid component, they are the most used methods in modern gel when we speak about french manicure.

If used correctly, they provide a seal equivalent to that of the primers with methacrylic acid and even higher than those of non-acid primer.

During your french manicure try to use these acids as little as possible in order to not affect the nails.

A word of advice, be careful always to choose a high quality product for your french manicure.
